Get Recruited For College Golf Ways to Get Noticed

College Golf Recruiting one of the best ways to obtain an athletic scholarship is to get noticed. This can be a challenge when one considers the vast number of junior golfers pursuing this exact goal. There are ways to stand out though, and ways to maximize your exposure to college coaches. Promoting yourself is something you can do on your own, and a great way to get noticed.

First and foremost, practice your game. Make sure you are building your work ethic each day and improving your game both mentally and physically.A great way to practice is to compete as much as you can. You can compete on the junior tour and in invitational tournaments with the goal of earning a ranking and building your golf resume. College coaches view these rankings during the recruiting process.

While you keep track of your tournament finishes and rankings, record a recruiting video to send out to college coaches. Coaches receive a lot of contacts and requests from recruits so make sure you are sending your information to colleges that you have a strong interest in attending and that you feel are a good athletic, academic, and social fit. Once you are comfortable with your top college choices, you can really begin to focus on capturing the attention of those coaches. Schedule campus visits and keep in touch with the coaches who have made contact.

Last but not least, sell yourself. In addition to marketing your skills on the course, highlight other attributes about yourself such as confidence or ability to focus under pressure. If those aren’t your best traits then highlight something else about your character. Maybe it’s your leadership skills or work ethic that set you apart from others. Identify your strengths and use them to sell yourself as a top recruit!

Find The Best College Golf School choosing where to go to college is one of the most important decisions of your life. Hopefully you have an idea of where you want to be the next four years and where you are a good fit, not just athletically, but academically and socially. At this point in the semester you are probably waiting to hear back from admissions at the schools you applied to, but it never hurts to continue researching your options in case you need a backup plan.

First, remember that the admissions process can take a long time. Do not panic if you are still waiting for an answer. It is not the end of the world if you do not get accepted at your top school. There are many great universities out there that will provide a quality education and a chance at earning a scholarship.

Go outside your comfort zone if you have to and expand your search. It may be a scary thought to imagine going to school a thousand miles from home but it could also be a great experience. Limiting your search area will limit your chances of finding the school that fits you best.

Keep studying and working on your grades. If you can still retake tests to try for higher scores, you should take advantage of those opportunities. Check the deadlines for submitting applications and taking or retaking the SAT. If you really want to get ahead, start looking at potential majors or classes you want to take in the fall.

Go above and beyond with extracurricular activities. Admissions staff are impressed with individuals who are able to maintain good grades but are also involved in other activities such as student government, volunteerism, community service, and of course athletics.

Most of all stay positive and enjoy your graduation and summer activities. Relax knowing that your hard work as a student and a teammate over the past few years is going to pay off. These are exciting times in your life. Graduation is referred to as commencement because it is not an ending, but the beginning of the next chapter.

Are you doing your part to get noticed by College Golf Coaches?

With all the new junior golf organizations and dozens of tournaments going on weekly across the state of Texas, it is nearly impossible for college golf coaches to evaluate every player in person. Sure, if you are the next Jordan Spieth, college coaches will put you a top the list of players they must see. If not, the high school golfer has to do the majority of the leg work to get noticed and recruited to play college golf.

The first thing you have to do is develop a quality marketing package, that includes

Resume

Cover Letter

Recruiting Video

Do not take this lightly. Take your time and put together a video, letter and resume that will appeal to college golf coaches and stand out from the rest. It is important to have someone with college golf recruiting experience help you develop this package to ensure you are including everything the coach will want to see in a potential student-athlete. Most coaches, especially golf coaches at programs outside of the “Power 5” conferences, use recruiting videos as their main tool when deciding to pursue a golf recruit or not. The majority of junior golfers will receive a scholarship to play golf outside of NCAA D1. With that being said, YOU need to do your work to get recruited since those other schools have very small recruiting budgets.

When a college golf coach shows up to a junior golf tournament, rarely will they identify a completely new prospect. Coaches do their homework and chose junior golf tournaments wisely. They have a list of players they are their to see, rarely will a junior golfer catch their eye that they didn’t already know about. Do your homework and make sure you are on the college golf coaches list to see at your next junior golf tournament!

Golf Recruiting Letter & Resume

Developing a marketing package for college golf coaches is a very important step in the golf recruiting process. This is your first impression with the golf coaches. You want to make sure to take your time, and have your parents or a mentor look over the letter before sending it to college coaches. Here are some tips to get your started in the college golf recruiting process:

Write Your Golf Cover Letter

Your cover letter will be used to transmit your resume and recruiting video and will be your first formal introduction to coaches. As such, it should be written to tell your personal story. Keep it focused and limit it to one page. Make sure you check and re-check spelling and grammar. Also, make sure to address each coach as: Coach (Last Name).

Since everyone comes from different backgrounds, this is your time to distinguish yourself from the pack. Tell the coach where you come from and how you have excelled in the classroom and on the playing field or court. Focus on your personal qualities and characteristics, in addition to your academic and athletic accomplishments.

Develop Your Golf Resume

One thing that is consistent for any high school athlete planning to play at the college level is the importance of a good athletic resume. Your resume will provide a college coach an accurate account of your athletic and academic record. It will be sent to college coaches, along with a cover letter, video, and upcoming tournament/game schedule.

It is important that this resume be well-organized and well-written. A good tip is to start a resume early – at least by sophomore year and then regularly update it, as necessary. This will provide you with an opportunity to revise it as you develop.

Try to keep your resume to one page, while providing key information including:

Basic Information including:

Name

Address

Telephone

Birth date

Height

Weight

Name of High School

Month and Year of Graduation

Grade Point Average/Class Rank

SAT or ACT Scores

List Other Sports and Extracurricular activities

Physical capabilities, such as:

Scoring average

Low tournament score

Recognition for golf accomplishments

Your tournament results and highlights. This is the part of the resume where you tell a college coach about your performance in tournaments. You may want to break this down by year, so coaches can see improvement from year to year. Remember to list:

Event name and location

Personal stats

Number of players in the field

Course Slope and Rating
